— Formulate and execute a comprehensive state planningstrategy.
— Develop and effectuate an overall state tax audit approachand policy utilizing extensive audit experience and with due considerationof all alternatives. Strategically manage, negotiate and direct state tax audits,including (a) responding to information requests, (b) negotiatingresolution of issues, (c) formalizing resolutions, and (d) overseeing andparticipating in tax protest and/or appeal conferences and litigationproceedings.
— Manage the preparation and review of state and local incometax returns.
— Proactively coordinate and negotiate credit and incentives.
— Regularly communicate with business units regarding proposedchanges to the businesses.
— Maintain close communication and effectively consult withoperating company personnel on all tax matters.
— Monitor and analyze changes in state laws for risk assessmentand/or potential tax savings.
— Identify, develop, quantify, and communicate with taxprovision group regarding potential tax risks and opportunities.
— Manage the overall state uncertain tax position analysis process.
— Manage the preparation and review of amended state income taxreturns required in connection with audit settlements.
— Be responsible for special projects, as assigned.
— ·Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. ·CPA and/or Master's degree in Taxation highly preferred.
— ·Minimum of 12 years of experience with public accounting in "Big 4" and/or a large multinational corporation.
— ·Extensive, practical experience with state tax return preparation and review.
— ·Significant and broad experience working with state income tax auditors.
— ·Substantial experience proactively managing credit and incentives.
— ·Superior state tax planning, negotiation and communication skills.
— SPECIAL SKILLS:
— ·Strong knowledge of state tax laws, regulations and rulings.
— ·Excellent organizational, analytical, managerial, communication and interpersonal skills.
— ·Strong computer skills with emphasis on high proficiency in spreadsheet modeling and tax return preparation system knowledge (OneSource working knowledge a plus). ·Hands-on and detail-oriented.
— The State Tax Manager manages all aspects of the Company's state income tax and credits & incentives process. This position will be responsible for state planning, compliance and controversy.
